They brought 1940’s nostalgia and patriotism into our living rooms with their performances on Britain’s Got Talent this summer and are now looking forward to bring their live show to St Stephen’s Church (The Church on the Green) Redditch.
on Saturday 6th October.
The D-Day Darlings are a three-piece all-female vocal group who perform classic songs from the 1930s and 1940s, along with other patriotic anthems. They were formed in 2008 as a trio by their leader Katie Ashby, whose 95-year-old step-grandfather Clifford Storr was an RAF navigator on Lancaster bombers during the Second World War and have performed all over the country, notably at The Imperial War Museum, The Black Country Museum, at the Royal Hospital Chelsea, and The Royal British Legion's Festival of Remembrance. In fact, The Darlings are registered fundraisers for the Royal British Legion, stating on their website that they are “proud to have raised £40,000” for the RBL to date. When asked to perform at the final Church on the Green concert for the 2018 season they agreed without hesitation. “ We are delighted that the D Day Darlings will be performing live in our beautiful building” said a spokesperson for Church on the Green “ Bringing local talents and the community together is very important to us and this is a perfect end to what has been a successful and well-received first season for Church on the Green and which has introduced 100’s of people to our church and our town”.
Word of the event has been spreading and already tickets are being reserved. Tickets for the concert are £10 each and available from The Word Christian Bookshop at St Stephen’s Church and The Music Shop in Kingfisher Centre or call the ticket enquiry line on 07484 641016.
