The annual Village Fete Paxfest will once again be on the Queen Elizabeth II Playing Field on Saturday 11th July 2020. Preparations are already underway for the event which helps raise lots of funds for village clubs, groups and organisations. The event theme will be - Back to the 1940’s. Due to its popularity at this year’s event, some of the animal attractions will be returning including the Ark Farm with farm animals. The mobile farm will have lambs, piglets, chickens, geese, a goat and a cow. There will be an interactive area with hands on opportunities. The Cake competition will be back, and the adult competition will be to bake a Carrot Cake. The Children’s Cake competition is to bake a tray bake. New Show competitions for 2020 include floral display in a teapot/teacup and a 1940’s theme on a plate. The competitions are open to adults & children. The Fun Dog Show returns for its eighth year with popular classes including Best Paw Shaker, Quickest Sausage Catcher and Best six legs. Registration for the dog show is on the day. The musical entertainment will include performances from The Porterhouse Jazz 6, Little Paxton School Choir and Royston Town Band and Cambridgeshire Caledonian Pipe Band. All the musical entertainers will be playing music from the 1940s era. We are delighted to announce that ‘Tom Sings Swing ‘ will be performing Sinatra songs in the afternoon. The back room of the village hall will be a children’s’ craft activity area including face painting. Similar to Paxfest 2019, the main arena outside will be for the Fun Dog Show. All commercial stalls are to provide their own gazebos, tables & chairs. Nearer the time, all commercial stallholders are required to provide a copy of their public liability insurance certificate to the Parish Clerk. Setting up times As in previous years, access to the playing field for setting up stalls will be from 10.30am with the event opening at 12 noon and finishing at 4.45pm. Please do not arrive before 10.30am. In the interests of public safety, after the event opens at 12 noon there is to be no movement of vehicles on the playing field until 4.45pm when the event finishes. Once vehicles are unloaded, they are to be moved to the designated parking area on the playing field. In the event of bad weather (rain), the event will still go ahead. PARKING ARRANGEMENTS FOR 2020 Concerns have been raised regarding parking in the village hall car park on Paxfest day. Passes will now be issued for village hall car parking spaces with each pass having an allocated parking space- this will be mainly for entertainers and musicians for the event. Stallholders will be issued with a pass to park on the QEII Playing field. There will be NO public parking in the village hall car park. Please let me know if you wish to take part by completing and I will send a booking form. a There is a non refundable booking fee of £25. In the event of bad weather, the event will still go ahead.
